A Behind-the-Scenes Look Into New Belgium’s Hemp Beer Production Process

In an effort to create their sustainably produced, hemp-inspired beer, The Hemperor HPA, New Belgium Brewing ran into a series of mind-boggling regulatory hurdles that inspired them to work toward modernization of outdated laws and elevate the national conversation around industrial hemp production. 

Combining hops, hemp hearts and natural flavors, The Hemperor HPA is an entirely unique style of beer that captures the dank, herbal aroma of hemp while elevating the hops to a higher level. Over two years in the making, the Hemperor finally gives New Belgium the opportunity and platform to raise awareness around the social, environmental and economic benefits of industrial hemp.

To further this movement, New Belgium is donating $10,000 to Colorado State University and Colorado Cultivators for hemp research. Additionally, one dollar of every barrel sold will directly support hemp advocacy efforts.
